Meet Cindy Deck…

Logic and Rhetoric Math Teacher

Cindy Deck and her husband Kevin have lived in Roanoke City for the past 34 years.  Together they have 4 wonderful children:  Natalie Monday, (husband Nick), Daniel, (wife Anna), Benjamin, and Lauren McIntyre, (husband Josh), and a total of 7 grandchildren!  Cindy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Math Education from Virginia Tech in 1982.

Cindy started her teaching career in Newport News, Virginia and taught for 2 ½ years before she and Kevin started their family.  They moved to Roanoke in 1987 and Cindy was blessed to be able to stay at home for 18 years while she raised their 4 children.  Their children attended public, private and homeschool over their school years.  When it came time for their kids to start college, Cindy went back to full time teaching in the public school system.  She taught at Woodrow Wilson Middle School for 16 years and for the last 11 of those years taught all of the Algebra and Geometry classes.  She retired in the spring of 2020 and has enjoyed her time “off”, but when the opportunity to teach the Algebra and Geometry classes at CCA was presented to her in early August, she was thrilled to have the opportunity to teach again.

During retirement she reacquainted herself with cross stitch (which had been put aside for years!) and taught herself to crochet.  She also loves to read and has been blessed to have time to play piano again on the new Yamaha her sweet husband gifted to her as a retirement present.

“I love to teach, and I love math!  I hope to instill some of my passion into every student I teach!”
