Meet Cheri Johnson…

Cultural Studies Teacher

The dear Lord has given Cheri an abundant life. Fifty years ago she accepted her first teaching assignment with severely handicapped children. Since then she has taught many children with all types of disabilities including autism and it has been the joy of her life! She has been an exchange teacher to five countries for the United States government and traveled to five countries to be a Lutheran missionary to children with medical teams. Cheri taught Special Education and Global Studies as an adjunct professor at Roanoke College, UVA, and Radford University for 20 years. She has taught and helped children in public and Christian schools by presenting cultural programs and engaging these students in  "hands on" experiences. Her goal has always been to demonstrate a passion and love of learning and include her Christian faith in her teaching. She has seen many educational ideas "come and go”, but ultimately children have remained the same. Children love a teacher who cares about them, excites their desire to learn, involves them in the learning, and inspires them to  share what they have learned. Cheri is thrilled to keep teaching into her retirement years and share her experiences. Cheri’s husband, Don, her three children, six grandchildren, and her collie, Lassie all support her! In Cheri’s free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, gardening, singing, and cooking.
