Meet Dan Walters…

CCA Director of School Security

Dan Walters comes to CCA as a dedicated law enforcement professional with over 26 years of exemplary service at the Roanoke County Police Department. Having served the agency since 1998, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to public safety and community engagement throughout his extensive career. His multifaceted experience encompasses various roles, including Patrol Officer, Detective, and School Resource Officer (SRO), underscoring his versatility and deep understanding of law enforcement. 

With six years of dedicated service as a School Resource Officer, Daniel played a crucial role in fostering safe and supportive environments for students, parents, and school staff. His leadership capabilities were further enhanced during his six years as the Sergeant supervising the School Resource Officer unit, where he implemented strategies for student safety and crisis management, making a lasting impact on the educational community. 

Daniel's early career was marked by 12 years of service as a Patrol Officer, where he honed his skills in community policing and response to emergencies. As a Detective for five years, he developed a keen investigative acumen, solving complex cases and contributing to the overall safety of Roanoke County. 

Throughout his career, Daniel has also distinguished himself as a seasoned instructor, with 23 years of experience training the next generation of law enforcement officers. His commitment to education was evidentas he held the role of Lead Driving Instructor for 11 years, where he trained officers on critical driving techniques necessary for emergencies and routine operations. Additionally, his eight years of experience as a Crisis Intervention Team coordinator have equipped him with the skills to manage and de-escalate tense situations effectively. 

Dan’s leadership abilities have been recognized through multiple awards and commendations, including being named Special Operations Officer of the Year by the Roanoke County Police Department and receiving a Public Service Award from the United States Attorney’s Office. These accolades reflect his unwavering dedication and professionalism in law enforcement and school safety. 

A graduate of Radford University with a B.S. in Sociology, Dan is also an active member of the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO), continuously seeking innovative strategies to enhance school safety. His passion for education and security drives him to stay at the forefront of best practices in school safety and crisis management.  His educational background is complemented by a comprehensive training history that includes courses in crisis intervention, mental illness, and specialized techniques in investigations and law enforcement leadership. His commitment to ongoing professional development is evident through a series of certifications and training programs, including the FBI's Supervisory Leadership Institute and Command Leadership Institute.   

In addition to his tactical and instructional expertise, Daniel is an advocate for community safety and well-being. He actively participates in initiatives aimed at addressing gang violence in schools and promotes mental health awareness through his training in trauma-informed responses. His involvement in programs focused on prevention and deterrence of terrorist acts demonstrates his forward-thinking approach to school safety in an evolving societal landscape.  

In his role at Cornerstone Classical Academy, Dan is committed to fostering a culture of safety and preparedness, ensuring that students can focus on learning in an environment that prioritizes their well-being.
